5 New Born Must Have Purchases

As a first time mom who did not have too many friends with kids, i heavily relied on the internet when it came to setting up the nursery. I wanted to get good quality items which would last us for future babies. I however did not want to spend too much money as a child has a lot of long term expenses to come in the future. I am listing here my top 5 successful purchases which i researched a lot prior to purchasing. I hope you find them helpful! You can click on the product pictures for a direct Amazon affiliate link!

Bassinet: I got the Halo bassinest. The best feature of this bassinet is that one side drops down. I had a C-Section and loved having this feature. I could bring one side down and pick up baby for feeds. I would place this bassinet right next to my bed. I could look at my baby though the breathable mesh. It also swivels to the side so  you can move it when getting out of bed. I would have struggled if i had to get out of bed every time i had to pick up the baby for a feed. It also has a vibrating mode with a sound machine, which was helpful to soothe the baby. We used this till about 3 months of age, at that point we switched over to a crib.

Pottery Barn Kendall Changing Table and Crib: This changing table is so beautiful to look at. I am 5’ 4” and it was the perfect height for me. I did not have to bend down and i appreciated that as i was recovering from a C-Section. My baby is 7 months old now and i still use this changing table. It also has plenty of drawer space where we separately organize clothes, burp cloths and diapers. This does not come with the changing pad on top, we ordered it on Amazon separately. We eventually ended up getting the matching crib set. What is wonderful about the crib is the adjustable height. Once our baby started pulling himself up, we changed the height of the mattress from the highest level to the medium level. Now he can pull himself up without the risk of falling out of the crib.

Diaper Genie: I don’t know how anyone would manage without this to be honest. I got the scented dispensing bags to go with it. It contains the smell 100%. We have one upstairs and one downstairs. We change the bag out twice a week.

Dreamland baby swaddle: I absolutely think this product is worth the money. The other cloth swaddles were okay for a few weeks and then our baby outgrew them. The dreamland swaddle is weighted and roomy. Once our baby outgrew the 0-6 month size swaddle i got the 6-12 month sleep sack. It helps him stay warm and cozy. It is a part of our bedtime routine.

Baby Bjorn Bouncer: We had to wait till our baby gained weight and reached 8 lbs to use it. We still use it to date. It helps him calm down when he is being fussy. He learnt how to bounce himself in it as well. It is however crucial to remember to not let a baby stay asleep in it as it increases the risk of SIDS. If my baby falls asleep while being bounced, I gently take him out of him and place him on a flat surface to sleep.
